New Generation Anchor on the 37

Is anyone using a Mantus or Rocna anchor on their 37?

I'm wanting to upgrade my groundtackle and have been thinking of getting a 45 lb. Mantus, just wondering how the new anchors fit on the factory anchor rollers, etc.

Thanks.

Dale,
I have a 35 lb Manson on the bow of my PSC 34. I think the bow setup is similar to yours. I drilled a hole through the anchor to hold it in place with a 1/2 inch pin that was already there, but the anchor still rocks from side to side (much more than my old Bruce 33 lb.). To further hold it from rocking I run a bungy cord from the roll hoop to the bow pulpit rail and it works well.

I just added a Mantus 30kg to my PSC37. It is one size up from the recommendation, but after the first night you have anchor problems a little overkill usually sounds good. I attached some pictures. The one thing I liked about the Mantus was the ability to take it apart and store it if needed. (Maybe used as a storm anchor) However, the picture of it on the bow roller shows it fits OK. You can't see it, but on the other roller the original anchor on my boat is still there, a 35# CQR. It is a little tight with both, but I think I would probably take the CQR off before the mantus. I don't have much experience using it yet, but will let you know how it holds.

Re: second anchor?

Can you fit a second next to it? Like a 35 CQR - on your 34?
Like I said in the post above, you can't really see it but my original #35 CQR is still on the 2nd roller. It is tight, and I had to pivot the head to get it to fit, but it is there. My boat is a 37' boat, so I'm not sure if it would fit on a 34. Going one size smaller on the mantus would probably be right for a 34' PSC as well.

We switched from a CQR, which we used successfully for decades, to a Manson Supreme and we really like the performance. We considered the Rocna, but found the Manson to be quite a bit less money. Our boat is a 34 foot trawler and we have anchored in just about every bottom type and conditions you can think of. Chuck

The 37 bow rollers look the same as the 34 to me. The only problem I have with a 60 pound CQR and a 34 pound Bruce is that in order to deploy the Bruce or recover it the huge CQR needs to be let out about 8 or 10 inches. I would think that if one were to hang a huge Manson or similar you might have to deploy it before the secondary and recover the secondary first. With 2 huge Mansons they would also overlap and you would have to deploy the last one recovered before the first one recovered would slide out.:D

Hey,
Sorry to bump this but I verified which anchor we have, and thought I'd add to the virtual knowledge base.
It is a Rocna original 25kg and it fits perfectly own the rollers of our 37.
I bought it in Tasmania after dragging a 45lb CQR all over the place. The holding is terrible in many places there. We never dragged again.

I went thru this this past spring. I tried the Manson 45 - too big to use without doing modifications to the boat, the Manson 35 - almost a fit, and the Ronca 33 - best fit. I settled on the Ronca but have to drill it to secure it with the pin that's there. The Ronca also makes it possible to carry another anchor on the second roller without too much fuss.

Fotosailor, you have probably already heard this but just in case. Many folks do not secure anchor with the anchor roller pin. The idea is if a wave hits hard, the pin could bend and jam making deploying hard or even impossible( without cutting pin).
Just an FYI :)

FYI the 34 and 37 are rather different at the bow with the 37 having a stainless tube bowsprit.

I download and printed the template for the Mantus 45 and tried it on my 37….I really don't think it's going to fit. The template doesn't have a roll bar but I did a mockup of one and it appears the roll bar will hit the bowsprit.

Here is a photo of the 45 lb Mantus template on the bow of my PSC34 (along with a 45 lb Bruce and a 35 lb Delta). You can see the roll bar strikes the ss tube that supports the red/green running light.
