For under a grand, if it sails you can't lose. Around here good ones go for $4K - $6K asking.
Yes, the keel is hard to check if it is steel bolts into iron keel usually since the 4 steel blots are buried under an inch of fiberglass...the C-26 may have lead ingots glassed into a the keel part of a one-piece hull mold and may not have bolts but someone in here knows or you can visit the Columbia yacht owner website and search some threads or ask around...Chances are if he is willing to go out with you under sail...the boat is a decent buy for that money...if the chainplates holding the shrouds were bad or the keel was about to fall off he likely wouldn't go with you

Re: 1969 Columbia 26

I'd ask him to take you sailing...proofs in the pudding...if it sails decent and you've done your homework and don't see any red-flags like corroded mast/boom,a sketchy-looking compression post, chalky or ripped sails, leaky massively corroded thru-hull fittings/seacocks, or loose rudder bearings; yeah, I'd probably lay down $950 for a decent Columbia26 in a heartbeat...they have great headroom for a boat that size and well-built overall these boats were. Hatches are probably pretty shot by now..good luck..

Hypothetically speaking...if you could purchase a Columbia 26 for $950, that the owner claims is sailable in her current condition and currently on the water...would you jump on it or not even go look at it? This boat is in need of tlc, of course, but for $950...yay or nay?
