This has everything;Sailing,God, Goverment & Escape
I read an article about it in the UK Daily Mail today.
You gotta give them credit, though. They were out there for months and were down to a juice box and a moldy raisin between them and didn't feel like they were in any real trouble. I think there's a Sushi Chef Transpac skipper they'd be perfect crew for!
Sigh. Funny other than the bit where they took their two young children with them.
You never know they might come on here and post about it in the BFS thread
The family was eventually dropped off at the U.S. embassy in Chile, where they will now fly home today, courtesy of the same government that has so seriously interfered with their religion.
Look at the little girl's face at the bottom of the frame. She's really looking forward to 18. Oh, and I think God gave them their answer on the whole government thing.
Why even take a boat, just do us all a favor and jump in the water. If you pray hard enough, God will take care of you. If you die, well then, you just didn't have enough faith.
You know the story of the family sitting on their roof during the flood? A rescue boat comes to take them to safety, but they refuse to board it, saying "God will save us from the rising waters". The water continues to rise and they drown. When they see God in heaven, they ask him why he didn't save them. He says, "I sent you a rescue boat".
On a bit of reflection, when the going was rough, they held it together really well. I have seen "adults" wet themselves in situations much less difficult than this. The fact that they made it so far is "somewhat" a testimony to their convictions and there ability to carry on in the face of adversity.
Now I am really curious to know the type of SV they where on, how much actual prior sailing experience they had. I betcha writing a book is gonna be in their future. Everybody has got to make a living, dontcha know!
I just want to know what kind of boat it was and what kind of damage they sustained. They were afraid to put up their genoa because they thought they would lose the mast? Did a stay snap? What went on?
