Can you elaborate on this please? I was planning on getting a Lofrans Tigress.

chef2sail 65 lb a few sizes in excess I would go with a 20 kg Rocna. 44 lbs or so.

I second all the above.
That's the windlass (Maxwell RC 10) I'm getting for my 20k pound Irwin 38 CC

Re: Yet another windlass thread...

thanks i was wondering about the 36 or 65 lb.

do you think that the 36 lb mantus is a better anchor than the 44lb bruce? Or apples and oranges?

Re: Yet another windlass thread...

To figure out the windlass power you need the formula is [ 3X (anchor weight + total chain weight + anchor rode weight) ]
I believe the 65lb anchor is a tad over kill. For your size boat a new generation anchor, Ronca, Mantus or Mason Supreme, 36lb anchor should be plenty.
With that in consideration
3 X (36 + (150' 5/15chain=166lbs) + (100' anchor rode= approx 13lbs) = 645 lbs max pull.
Therefore a 1000 watt windlass would work great.
Like TQA I like the Maxwell RC10-8.

Hope that helps.

Maxwell RC10/8 Automatic Rope Chain Windlass 5/16" Chain to 5/8" Rope - RC10812V gives you a pretty clean deck. Spares are available. 1000w

Big discounts if you shop around.

Avoid Lofrans just now as spares are unobtainable.

Yet another windlass thread...

This is for a Tartan 37 (15.5K), Thinking chain to rope (5/16->5/8) rode, with 20kg Bruce, and potentially 65lb mantus.

Usage will be East Coast ICW, Gulf coast FL, & Carib.

Questions:

Vertical or Horizontal?
Brand?
700w, 1000w, or 1200w?
Chain & Rope lengths?

Requesting preferences, pics, and advice :-)

My current thinking is 90 to 100ft of chain, 150-200 ft rope, and most likely vertical for the potential of two rollers? Not sure on brand, and whether I should buy online or someone suggested Anapolis Boat Show in Oct.

Thanks in advance!
