Congratulations! I've heard that they are great boats! Did you know that the designer is a frequent contributor here?

Well after a lot of false starts we finally have our first sailboat.
I'm Bob Stack, from Hartland, WI. I'm 54 just acquired a 1976 Islander 28. Overall she's in very good shape but very dirty. She's not been neglected, but the prior owner was 85 and frankly just hadn't taken as much care over the past several years. She's solid (no soft spots) but needs a good DEEP cleaning and a fair amount of spider cracking to address.
We got her in the water last weekend and will mess aroud with her some the rest of this season. When she comes out we will get to the real work in whatever Fall we get and in Spring before launch.
We will be sailing Lake Michigan, out of South Shore Yacht Club where I've been able to secure a mooring to keep costs down. A slip would be nice, but the cost to acquire the mooring was about half of one season's slip rental and now it's mine. I can do a lot of dinghy rowing for that kind of savings.
