Hello Fairwind, I'm about to purchase a 1972 Santana 21 and was wondering if you could send me a copy of the owner manual if you still have it. I'm not sure if the 73 is different or not but at least it can give me a general idea. thanks a ton. Magd.
PS apparently I'm not able to post an email address since I dont have enough posts.! not sure how else to contact you?

Re: Santana 21

Great boat. I had one in 1976 and enjoyed it greatly. I snapped the rudder in half in 30 knot winds. The rudder had some dry rot so I made a new one out of mahogany and fiber glassed it over. I designed the new rudder to extend slightly forward of the transom ( when deployed). It took a load off the tiller when the wind piped up.

I'm new to sailing as well, I have done some bay sailing in a Santana but never ventured outside of the bay, how would a Santana 22 do along the California coast?

Crewed a few times on a Santana 25, they make a great boat.

Re: Santana 21

Many sailmakers offer 'tuning guides' for recognized designs.. perhaps there's one available for your boat.

The tool you refer to for measuring and setting rig tension is called, ironically, a "Loos gauge".

Dan,
I used to own a 1973 Santana 21. Unfortunately, not many sailing opportunities here in Indiana so I sold it a couple of years ago. I still have a pdf copy of the owner's manual. It includes directions/guidelines for tuning the rigging. I can't seem to upload it to this post, but if you reply with an email address, I will be happy to email it to you.

Santana 21

I am a novice sailor with an Santana 21 trailer sailor. I did not see anything current threads referencing the boat until now. I am learning more with every weekend I spend on the water. I may be able to offer helpful advise to other noobs. I would also welcome advise. Currently I am trying to figure out how to set up the standing rigging with regards to shroud tension. I understand there is a hand held device that can measure the tension of the shrouds but the ideal settings are specific to the boat. Short of finding the factory recommendations of a 1971 Santana 21, is there some general guidelines that I could use to make sure I am not too tight or too loose on the shroud tensions?

Thanks in advance,
Dan
