Re: Moderators: Be Alert today

I don't know how to tell what would have triggered that. It could be that someone inserted some content linked from that blackhole dot net malware site on a posting, or there is malware installed on the forum that decided to distribute malware to you, and just you, or maybe a problem with one of the ads on the site.

I visited blackhole.net and it sends me to a marine traffic website. Likely somebody just posted that link on a thread, but for some reason that site is listed as a malware site in chrome.

Re: Moderators: Be Alert today

OK, a few more pieces of the puzzle...

This morning I went back and re-read the warning page, and noticed it made mention of a specific website (I won't name the website here because then it will link to it) but it's in the screenshot I attached.

Also, apparently it's only the first page of the thread that offends Chrome. I was able to load page 2 without a problem.

Anyway, it may just be "one of those things" that people refer to that doesn't have a solution because it's not really a problem but I just wanted to close the loop with these last bits of information.

Re: Moderators: Be Alert today

I'm not seeing that problem in Windows. I wonder if what you're seeing is Chrome being updated to see the "issues" we saw a few weeks ago with Symantec.

I thought I had clicked the wrong link so I backtracked and tried it twice more, each time getting the same warning. None of the other threads give me such a warning.

I can't duplicate your problem RC though I am Firefox not chrome. I have some pretty heavy duty virus/spyware protection and nothing this end is flagging that thread as a problem. Otoh, it has been known to happen that some anti virus or anti spyware programs can flag incorrectly.

Re: Moderators: Be Alert today

There was malware that was installed on the site from months ago which was causing the redirects to malware downloading websites when new visitors (no cookies) would view pages from search engines. Was that ever fixed? The could have just turned off the redirects, but kept the back door open so they can get in and download all the site data whenever they want. It's hard to fix since no antivirus software will detect it, and it doesn't modify any of the core VBulletin files.

Has anyone else started getting spam in their email, presumably since the email database was stolen by the crackers?

Moderators: Be Alert today

Note to anyone watching over this site: another large site, running on vBulletin software, was hacked yesterday and the owner has taken it down for what promise to be time-consuming repairs.

If you wish to email me back channel, I can describe the result of the hack, but personally I do not know how to repair it.

As a moderator my only expertise has been keeping "order" on the tone of the commentary for many years.

Loren
