I was a teenager in the summer of 1952, spent a week in Seaside and could not get a date for the life of me. It was rejection city. That was then.

Re: Fire SeaSide Heights NJ

AS posted The businesses destroyed by the fire will have access to Sandy restoration funds. Here is the maddening thing for New Jersey residents as well as tax payers. This is the second dip into these funds for these businesses. This in itself might not get more than a passing nod if not for the fact that tens of thousands of homeowners in NJ are still displaced by Sandy. These homeowners, who qualify for funds, have been unable to access the fund. Many blocked by the bureaucratic wall that continually rejects their applications without explanation. There are more than 26,000 home owners in one county alone who are still "Displaced." 26,000!!!!!! Feel free to substitute the word homeless for displaced.

On national TV the governor promised the process would be transparent and that red tape would be cut to get businesses up and running and homeowners back in their homes. While the red tape was cut for businesses, which were rebuilt without delay, the process is a nightmare for home owners. The process is anything but transparent as the state is fighting several Freedom of Information lawsuits as homeowners and the NJ press seek to see where the road blocks are, why they are, and how the money is being allocated. The wall was taken down for business and built as high as possible for home owners.

It is an insult to these displaced people that another $15,000,000 of restoration funds flows freely to insured business owners who were already rebuilt once with these funds. There is absolutely no way to determine that sandy damaged wiring sealed away for forty years and exposed to forty years of Noreaster driven high tides and previous Hurricanes. Because the money used to rebuild is coming from the Feds, it is insult to every taxpayer to be expected to believe such an implausable cause. Regardless, the business owners of Seaside are once again put in line ahead of the homeless.

While Gov Christie revels in his "Stronger than the storm" ad campaign, these poor people are "Stuck with the storm."

Re: Fire SeaSide Heights NJ

Sandy restoration funds will be used to rebuild the boardwalk and businesses at Seaside! Good news indeed! Seems that 40 or 50 year old wiring under the boardwalk had come into contact with sea water during Sandy and that 11 months later the inevitable took place. That Hurricane Irene the year before, and 40 years of adnormal high tides flooding the very same wiring didn't cause a problem is to be expected. After-all Sandy was a superstorm. One with a restoration fund kitty! So you see, things work out!

The state investigation into looting by Seaside Hts first responders continues.

The federal investigation into the misuse of Sandy Restoration Funds by Seaside Hts continues.

Meanwhile the Boardwalk in Seaside wasn't the only big fire in NJ lately. Dietz and Watson lost a 300,000 square foot warehouse manufacturing facility in Delanco NJ. The plant is a total loss. Fortunately for D&W, who self insures, investigators found a Sandy connection to this fire as well. It was discovered that Sandy had passed over the area 11 months ago with 45 mph winds. Those winds blew twigs and bird nest debris onto the solar panel array on the roof of the building. Well, without question, the building's fate was sealed at that point. Though it took eleven months for the debris to cause ignition, D&W got hung with over a million pounds of roasted weenies. The Sandy restoration fund to the rescue. And again, it was a Superstorm! Thankfully, this was only a warehouse fire not a tragedy. Though, the birds did have to rebuild their nests.

If your boat ever gets destroyed, remember these words, and think about how you would feel if I said them.

I kind of think sometimes "tellin' it like it is" is best kept between you and yourself. Every thought doesn't always have to be verbalized publicly, especially in situations like this.

Sad. I lived in Ocean City, Zj for 18 years and remember our boardwalk going up in flames. Fire spread quick and was devastating. Cheers to the people of Seaside and a speedy recovery.

Last time I was in SeaSide on the brdwalk I was amazed how much it it had not changed since I was a child. My family was going there in the 40s i think. I remember the 50s somewhat.

Re: Fire SeaSide Heights NJ

I don't have ill thoughts, just tellin it like it is. If your 21 and looking for a place to get drunk down the shore this place is perfect! If you are anybody else, find another shore town. Any other shore town! Especially if you have a family. Unfortunately these places aren't what they were 30 or 40 years ago.

I'll give you that it's a huge loss. A temporary loss. It is not a tragedy. No one was killed. No one was hurt. All the businesses were in wind down mode. The season is over. It will get rebuilt with insurance money and state aid. Business owners will be reimbursed for lost property, inventory, and revenue. And, if these towns remain true to form, every New Jersey taxpayer will get stuck with part of the bill. We get to pay to rebuild the boardwalk.

Even if you have ill thoughts about Seaside, this is a huge loss and tragedy for those who live down the shore, such as my cousins, and those who have childhood memories of the boardwalk. I wish Seaside a speedy recovery!

Gee, Snooki's boardwalk bites it again!!!!

Not a nice place, too much booze, and testosterone. Along with a town that has taken soaking the tourist to new levels.

God knocked this place down with a Superstorm last year. You'd think they'd get the hint!
