We were about halfway between Horta in the Azores and Bermuda. *sigh*
If it makes you feel any better, we had exactly the same conversation... about 8 miles into the wilderness while climbing the Three Brothers peaks in the Adirondaks... with my three sons (early teens and younger) along at the time. Awkward.

Ahhh.. nature!

Conversation from twenty years ago...1/2 way on a 6-hour trip to Lunenberg: "Honey, where did you stow the baby's diapers?"..."I didn't bring them; didn't you?"

Fortunately we had several tea towels (dish towels) and some safety pins on board. But it was a long walk on a Saturday night in Lunenberg to find a store open that had diapers.

+1 on baggies or other containers. Add scraps of paper or Post-Its to label them, and LOTS of pictures.

Re: Important boat stuff you forget

Kind of sailing related:

I was solo backpacking a few days ago and I forgot my tent poles. Oops... If I weren't a sailor and didn't always carry a bunch of line with me, this likely wouldn't have ended as well as it did.

She's not pretty, but she kept me dry. Even the vents were able to stay open (single wall tent) and keep the condensation at bay.

This is clearly the winner. Nothing else can compare (coffee does come in as a weak second!)
