Re: CS36 Merlin Wing Keel

Dedojenda has a Merlin with a deep keel. I know after he bought it, he had CC pull the keel and rebed it. Not sure if it had this issue, or David just wanted to know it was in good shape. I believe there is a thread on what was done etc. by CC.

But this smile if you will, seems common enough with some brands.

Never raced, seems like too much work. First trip to the Bahamas in the Merlin was 1990/91. Been there every year since. The 393 has a lot more room and a better fridge and freezer.

Still got all that stuff trailing behind you I see! lol

Glad to hear you did the Bahamas. Eventually we want to go to New England, maybe Bermuda and the Bahamas. If we like cruising enough we'll go bigger and more cruisey oriented. I'm slowly getting my head wrapped around the cruising lifestyle after years of racing/delivering when I can squeeze it in.

Probably all the boats I passed!

Picture was taken in the Tongue of the Ocean on the way to Nassau. Think it was in 2002/2003, the last time I took the Merlin south. She doesn't leave Lake Ontario anymore.

This one's faster.

I've got a Merlin w/ the deep keel. Nothing like that on my boat. Actually the keel/hull joint is really pretty damn fair.

Any ideas
I have a 1988 Merlin with the patented Hydrokeel. Bought it new and still have it. There is a 1/2" gap at the front of the keel and this is normal. Just fill with some filler. Not caused by grounding. Came from the builder that way and I saw the boat every weekend during the build.

Have the keel dropped and inspect it. Nothing like that on my 40.

Re: CS36 Merlin Wing Keel

No Photos? Hard grounding and they filled the gap instead of fixing the damage? Don't buy it!
