Design or flaw

Looking at a 1989 CS36 Merlin wing keel and wondering about a filler strip or some type of wedge that appears approx 1/3 of the length of the front of the keel where the keel and hull join
This strip starts out approx 3/4 of an
inch falling to nothing towards the back
Any ideas

Still got all that stuff trailing behind you I see! lol

Glad to hear you did the Bahamas. Eventually we want to go to New England, maybe Bermuda and the Bahamas. If we like cruising enough we'll go bigger and more cruisey oriented. I'm slowly getting my head wrapped around the cruising lifestyle after years of racing/delivering when I can squeeze it in.

Dedojenda has a Merlin with a deep keel. I know after he bought it, he had CC pull the keel and rebed it. Not sure if it had this issue, or David just wanted to know it was in good shape. I believe there is a thread on what was done etc. by CC.

But this smile if you will, seems common enough with some brands.
