Re: Barient winch parts

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I came across this site with Barlow/Barient schematics:

Good luck--

Re: Barient winch parts

I have searched the internet for a accurate parts breakdown of my Barient 27-48 2-speed ST winches but to no avail. These are 1993 vintage winches based on the commissioning of the boat. In disassembling the winch I am not able to remove the center drive shaft. The spline at the base of the shaft directly drives a ratchet gear but I am wondering if it is press fit as I am not able to persuade it to budge.
Anyone know for sure how this is to be disassembled?

Re: Barient winch parts

I'm more than happy to second that. When I rebuilt our old boat's Maxwell winches some time back, Allen Hutton and his crew were of inestimable value.

They can be a bit slow to answer emails but other than that top marks.

Finally got to meet AH at the last Sydney Boat Show. Nice bloke.

Just an update--

The set of bearings arrived in six days and it was exactly as advertised--perfect replacement. Back in business.

Barient winch parts

For you sailors--if/when you need parts for your old winches (mine are all
Barients from 1981), I found an excellent choice today (July, 2013) in
Australia: HUTTON-ARCO Yacht Winches. I needed a new set of
drum bearings for my Barient 32 ST and they have what I need and will ship later
today--$275 including shipping, which is about $4000 less than a new,
comparable, winch like a Lewmar or Anderson. Very nice people to deal with on
the phone--
