Jack - thanks again. But I have to give credit where it's due...this is not my advice, but that of the USCG, Unlimited Masters such as Evans Hoyt and John Konrad V, and many others.

I just compiled their very valuable info/advice into a single article. So, I'm just the interviewer/writer, not the expert. Not by any means.

Hopefully, though, this will get sailors of all kinds more motivated to take advantage of Safety at Sea seminars and equivalent.

Re: Smacky is a published author

For anyone in the PNW, in January I am doing a seminar at the Vancouver boat show on our medevac to an 1100 foot container ship 1040 miles north of Hawaii in August 2012 and the role that AMVER and the RCC played.

I will post the date and time when it is confirmed.

I have posted the videos earlier, but I can re-post if needed.

Smacky let me have a pre-publication copy of his article which helped me flesh out the presentation. From my experience, the advise he offers is excellent.

Knowing that AMVER is providing this service is very comforting.

Re: Smacky is a published author

Thanks fellas. Poor Smeetons. When "Smackdaddy" becomes "an authority on Safety at Sea" - it is clearly a sign of the Armageddon.

The training sessions ought to be lively!

As for Lats and Atts, stern - have you ever seen AMVER ships' crew in bikinis? [shudder]

(PS - Yes, it was Doug's account here that got me interested in the state of AMVER rescue. It's a pretty complicated issue, obviously. But, before looking anywhere else, there is lots of room for us sailors to take up our own end of the responsibilities through awareness, education, and training. That was my focus.)

Holy smokes, I just read that article last night, and was especially juiced that it mentioned Doug Sabbag's thread here (I assume that's what you were referring to Smack!). No idea that was you behind that article. Now, if you had written it for the old Latitudes and Attitudes, no doubt that the real "Smackdaddy" would have shined through a bit more. Regardless, well done sir.

Agreed, it was very well done, indeed...

Pay no mind to people like Miles & Beryl Smeeton turning over in their graves, if they knew this is where we've come to...

(grin, bigtime)

Seriously, excellent article, you should do more...

Good go I did read the article and get that magazine in the box. How cool to interact with the rich and famous! Just telling it like it is. Your friends and your mind set is your wealth, This now increases your fame.
Best wishes, Lou
