Great article on making the rope mats. These traditional skills are great to learn and pass along!

Re: Rope mats

Been looking for some type of mat for the companionway on our boat. I may have to try this out! Lovely!

Re: Rope mats

Made a mat for my girlfriend's parents for Christmas.. I ended up tightening it up before I gave it to them, this picture was taken after I made it at work.

Re: Rope mats

This old rode made a nice gift with a story behind it.

Since many old ropes will smell a bit, even after washing, a spray or soak with a weak borax/baking soda/washing soda solution will kill mildew even bleach will miss.

Re: Rope mats

hi Mike
this may be a long shot, but I knew and occasionally helped a man named eddie power (he had been my high school wood shop teacher) who built a 47 ft trimaran in whitby ontario back in the late 70s or early 80s, i know he had plans to sail it south but have long since lost track of him and the there any sort of trimaran forum or internet group that might help me track him down?? thanks!

Re: Rope mats

rope mats look like a great idea for a windless day on the water or a relaxing day on the rocks or sand

Re: Rope mats

Rope mats of many types can leave a nasty discolored area if left in the same spot for an extended period. Check frequently and clean as necessary.
