The hot water heater should have a drain tap on the back side. You could put a small hose on it and drain the water to the bilge.
In 18 years, moored at the BC west coast, i only leave the tabs open. But i keep the boat warm with a 110v light bulb.

Islander 30 Bahama winterizing tips?
This is my first season winterizing my I-30. I had an I-28 for many years and had the process down pat. One thing I used to do is empty the water tank and then pour down a gallon of cheap vodka and run it through to the faucets. Let avoid any anti-freeze aftertaste. The I-30 has a hot water heater and I doubt I can afford that much vodka.
If anyone on this board can offer tips, "do's and don'ts", or "gotchas" related to winterizing this type of boat, I'd be very grateful.
