Blister Woes

When I pulled my 1976 vintage boat this fall there were an exceptional number of silver dollar size blisters. Upon investigation (grinding) some/most were connected. I then made the decision to have the bottom pealed due to the extent of the blistering, at which time it wept a brown liquid. I then proceeded to break open the wet spots to assist in the drying of the hull and wash it weekly to remove the crystallised particles. Now I am finding that there are sections of glass, which are a couple of Feet Square that are not laminated to the next piece. I can stick my scrapper right in and have removed some spots which are about 1 foot square.

Any comments on continuing to remove all these sections then prep and repair or can these be left, and the areas that have been opened repaired with a new layer of glass or epoxy depending on the size then appropriately sealed?

As a follow up not this was her second season in fresh water, and there were minimal blemishes this past spring.

Advice is appreciated;

John

As I and others have advised before, this is the result of osmotic blistering. At this point I would not offer advice other than you seeking expert advice from someone who can actually inspect the hull and give you an evaluation of the cost and effectiveness of such an extensive and expensive repair.
Good luck,

From what you are describing; this is bad. Small blisters aren''t usually a problem, but what you are looking at is serious. Get a hold of a good surveyor and ask, this is the most impartial way I know of to get unbiased information. It’ll cost you for the surveyors time, but well worth it.
