How much time do have? I can tell you that the current in the gulf is generally out of the west but if you are making a trip out of it and staying near the coast you can get out of a lot of it. What time of year?
In winter the wind is generally out of some kind of north so if you can get the noth out of the way from the keys to say cape san blas you could have a nice trip along the coast.
Summer time the wind is more west and south so it will be a lot tougher trip.
but if you stay fairly close to shore you can take advantage of the daily land and sea breezes. this is all just in general for the northern gulf your milage may vary. Here is a link for the gulf stream windows doesnt like the auther but its a goverment site and works just fine.https://www.navo.navy.mil/cgi-bin/an...40/84/0-0-17/2
Hope this helps

I am thinking about taking this route to truck a boat to san deigo. If you have done this or parts of it let me know.Is this a hard sail?? It looks to me as if it will be against the currrent and wind, can one stay in close and get counter currents? How longwould this route take?I have been sailing my whole life mostly on the west coast I have sailed a 30ft boat to belize and back from S.F. And i do know the western Carib well.Have never sailed on the east coast or Gulf .I need to know if this would be worth it or sould one just head on through the canel and up which I know is some what of a #$!@&%$#.
