Hey there Mr Administrator sir and your minions (Cam, this means you !). Is there some merit in a new forum for that which is essentially off topic ? The sticky "recommended reading" has been well received, some bloody Wombat is cluttering up the rest of the site rabbiting on about music "recommended listening ?" and I'm sure there are folks out there who'd like to see "recommended watching".
Would seem to be a good way to keep such stuff out of the sailing threads while allowing discussion that means a lot to some of us.
Feedback (no pun intended) anyone ?

You must have missed it, I suggested the same a couple of weeks or so ago. Check Cam's first post in the "Can we agree" thread. Though I think he was just speaking for himself (at least until he says otherwise).

I agree, but not entirely...how can I have fun at some of the questions and their "expert" recommendations if we can't do it in the respective thread??? I mean some threads really deserve nothing more than joking, and some recommendations...well...leave it there...

I don't think I would like to do that I still feel free to joke...I have, however, limited and reduced my amount of joking and thread hijacking...I believe it is now in acceptable levels...no?

On the other hand...an "all goes" type "fighting club" thread would be a good idea...a place where we could talk about our banalities, post our absurd pictures of Cam in calendar bathing suits, and SD's skinny legs....etc.

For example...that pocket rat picture of yours. looks really weird...get a decent animal, like a Yorkie or a panda or something less...brokeback mountainish!!!:D :D

I don't have any objection to an off topic or "slop chest" type forum heading. It might be a good place to start non-sailing related topics that we "sometimes" engage in <g>...global warming, best tunes, the french <g> etc....
What I don't want to do is confine any discussion from its' natural spiral towards insanity as that seems to be part of the "charm" of sailnet to me!
I will post a note to Jeff and ask if we can have another forum topic.

First up..

PB...I guess I did miss it. My whoops I'm afraid.

Gui and Cam....not to prevent the slide into absurdity at all. Definitely not the idea. As with the book thread I'd see it more as an ongoing list of recommendations with the chattering classes still whittering on as per normal. To some extent it's a reaction to the "I want to rename my boat" brigade. By that I mean that at least when someone mentions their musical favs or asks about them we can redirect to the ongoing thread.

I confess my only concern was that it would upset some of the sponteneity but a general off topic forum is probably the way to go.

I see it simply as a place to start off topic threads, not, as I think some saw when I brought it up as keeping all the "wandering, humor (humour for them what's speak that funny english), etc. out of the regular forums.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
