Wanted to know those whom have had experience with Outboard hoists. Need to be able to hoist 88lb 8hp 4stroke

Currently looking at Forespar (Motor Mate) or Katomarine (Katolift 230) versions. Are there other good ones that are simple to use and remove when not in use. Anyone use the forementioned? Prices seem to be sub $400
I know that Practical Sailor reviewed these a while back but I don''t have the copy.

If the Garhauer is half the price. I wonder if the adage "you get what you pay for" Comes into play. I don''t simply want to save $$ I want a quality device. Any testimonals would be great. What is the max lift for LD 6-1 Gaurhauer? I might be hauling Rover out of the water also.

regards

Hi,I don''t know what the capacity of the Garhauer is. I lift a 8hp 2-stroke.I think I could lift another 30-40lb without a problem. The quality (seems) good.I''ve used mine for 3 yrs.& for 6mos. almost daily.Maybe some of the reasons it''s cheaper is that it has a 2-pc.post,the lift arm bolts on,it''s supported by the pulpit rail,& the whole thing is removable without undoing anything. Also, most Garhauer products are less expensive, across the board. I have a 36'' catamaran & I carry my dinghy in davits. It takes me about 6 min. to drop the dinghy, put on the o/b,and go.

We added a Kato230 lift to our Benetaeu 411 last year and are very pleased. Easy to install, we lift an 8HP outboard off of the dink and swing it around over the starboard quarter cockpit hatch and lower it onto a outboard mount set inside the hatch. The outboard is always stored and out of sight, its easy for my wife and I to handle, and I think it would be a usefull lift for an overboard if the need ever arises. I checked the invoice from last year..about $435 after mounting hardware, blocks and line, and taxes. It says its rated for 230 lbs.
Good luck.
