|cardiacpaul||Don't sweat it, we all do the "damn, what was i thinkin' dance" every once in awhile. It keeps our God complex in check.|

Did you install the impeller backwards too???

|bestfriend||Funny you should say that pigs. What gave me the idea that I was wrong about direction was that I lubed the impeller with dish soap. I noticed that I got bubbles in the strainer, BEHIND the pump. Duh, the water is going the wrong way.|

I swab the impellor with mineral oil to aidin priming.

|sailingdog||LOL... in the computer support field, we would call that a "loose nut at the keyboard error".|

Ouch, my pride
At the risk of loosing what little respect I may have here. The freakin' hoses were on backwards! I could have sworn I had the direction right. Switched the hoses because nothing else worked and what do ya know, water out the exhaust. Next thing that comes apart gets its picture taken first. Yeah, I know, what an idiot. To my defense, it has been fifteen years since I have worked on a motor. (like thats gonna stop ya from hammering me). But hey! I am going sailing and I won't hear you when you're shouting from the shore. Later!

I had an incident some years back where the connection between an intermediate shaft and the gear drive for the oil pump and RW pump failed internally - no output to these pumps - no pressure/no flow.
Good plan to check that visually.
Hopefully your problem will end up being easier to fix than that....

A few good ideas from the CSOA site. Check for an air leak. Make sure I have a seal on the brass strainer and hoses, pre-pump. Shut off the intake and disconnect hose pre-pump, then blow into hose, to find leak. Raining today, Tee-ball tomorrow, so I will check more on Monday before the mechanic shows up.
Also, take off pump cover and have someone crank the engine a little to check that the impeller has not come loose from the spine and is not spinning even though the shaft still is. (make sense?) And cranking with the cover off will give me 100% assurance of the direction and hose placement.
