Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Forgot to mention, last weekend we had the pleasure of participating in the MYC Regatta. Its was a race for fun and to extend the long tradition the club has had with its regatta, I wanted to support our Sail Fleet Captain and the tradition of the event. We had a blast even though we muffed the start which caused a little friction between the Admiral and I but at the end of the day of 10 boats we placed 4th I think. It was fun and the after party was great as well...we will drink our bottle of champagne this weekend to celebrate LOL

Cheers,

Have fun BubbleHD...

We have a "Fall Work Party" to attend Saturday at the new club, supposed be chilly and rain, arg. It should still be fun though, I am joining the entertainment committee and will chair it next year, also renewed my Chesapeake Bay Tartan Sailing Club membership as well as my Tartan 37 Club membership.

Hopefully Sunday we will get out for a day sail since we're spending the night on the boat after the work party not far away. We took the dodger off to do a quick repair but we haven't got to it yet, boat looks so plain without it I heard the word snow in the forecast for this coming week...I like sailing in the snow, as long as its not a blizzard

Cheers,

Shawn & the crew of S/V Windgeist

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

The only part I'm worried about is the southern bit near Marshy Creek. We're not going any farther north than Mears Point Marina at the bridge.

I think the trick is to get out in the morning before things really whip up.

Just a heads up might be a little skinny in the Narrows this weekend if the predicted Nor'Easter develops...

Whoowhee!

My annual "man cruise" is this weekend. 5 boats and 13 souls.
Saturday's forecast is 25 with gusts to 35 from the NW.

We rendezvous at Kent Narrows on Friday, then sail to St. Mike's on Saturday.
I'm not worried about making a downhill sail on the #3 jib on Saturday, but I sure don't want to be bashing upwind, home to the West River on Sunday if the wind hasn't laid down a bit!

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

The 2014 sailing season still goes on out here in SoCal until December 31. Last Thursday had a light day out of San Pedro, CA, singlehanding in winds 8-10 kts, usually around 15. Flat water, looked for early migrating Grey whales out to 7-8 miles offshore, but found none. Bundled up with T-shirt, shorts and PFD; with full brim hat and SPF 50 on. (My dermatologist loves me).

Plan to back off sailing a bit in January for full month of projects, wedged in between a lot of skiing (with a drought looming, yeah right) in Mammoth, and Colorado or Utah. Hope y'all have a great winter season, and much success on all of your projects.

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Smack, I've had her up to 10.1 MPH, which translates to 8.77 knots, and the guy that sold me the boat and had owned it for 35 years said he never got close to those speeds. He went with me on a couple trips and attributed the speed to how I set the sails. Now, I don't consider myself very good at setting the sails correctly, but he was certainly impressed. Guess I did something right for a change. I'll have to have my wife mark that on her calendar.
