Re: Yay! A c27 subforum!

Just joined this forum. We just bought 1976 27' Catalina. Looking at taking off deck hardware to re-seal. Would greatly appreciate anything learned!!!

Re: Yay! A c27 subforum!

There is a simpler way using lag bolts, call Catalina Yachts or check their web site for details.

Re: Yay! A c27 subforum!

I looked at the keel bolts and they have to be replaced. Did I read that I have to cut a horizonta; hole in the keel to attach the nut to a bolt screwd vertically into the keel. Is there an easier way?

Keel bolts, deck leaks- both repairable without a major fuss.

It has been at a couple of the shows and it's on Yachtworld in around the 70k range. It'll probably run circles around the 270, but we'll be much, much more comfortable when it rains. It all depends what you want. Gerry has probably come to understand that there's a few options in the 27 foot range for cruisers, and there's only so much you can do.

Re: Yay! A c27 subforum!

I also have a C27! Mine has an outboard that i try to never use. However; last year when i worked at one of the local marinas we had a C27 with a diesel that had this problem after we put a bigger prop on it perhaps a smaller prop would solve your problem. This boat however is the only C27 in the world that drafts 5 feet and has a different rudder (similar to a hunter 28.5 rudder). It was built for someone that worked on Catalina's design team. The new larger prop caused the issue tho.

Re: Yay! A c27 subforum!

Delighted to see this up. Have completed several projects that I can post here and am replacing a soft core as we speak. Would love to hear from anyone who has done this!

Re: Yay! A c27 subforum!

Has anyone (else) encountered rudder problems when under power.
My C27 has the old Atomic 4 inboard engine. When under power if I let go of the tiller for just a second the boat goes into a hard over turn that is difficult to recover from. (Sometimes I think the tiller will break before I can get it straightened out again.)

This is beyond annoying to the point of being dangerous. It turns so hard and fast that gear or people could be thrown off.

Any help will be appreciated.
