Cool site similar to Sailing Weather - Marine Weather Forecasts for Sailors and Adventurers - PassageWeather

Re: Global Winds Model

This is a really cool visual way to see just how angry the high-latitude winds are. Yikes!

Re: Global Winds Model

As a note, water temp and current typically run hand in hand. So knowing the temp of water you are in will let you know if you are in or out of a current many times.

Really cool. I would hate to be in the northern Atlantic right now.

Re: Global Winds Model

I just discovered that you get more than wind with the model on this website....if you click on the "earth" on lower left corner you can select ocean currents, surface temperatures and winds at various levels of the atmosphere.

The currents are updated every five days, the winds, temps and other weather info is updated every 3 hours.

Global Winds Model

I ran across this site today while looking at a touring bicycle site. I don't do bikes, but a prospective crew member does and in reading his blog I came across this:

earth wind map

I think it's a near real time view of winds world wide. Anyone thinking of offshore passage making might find this interesting.

P.S. Try zooming in on specific regions.
