labatt I'm not related to the site and have no interest in their success, but check out Marinas.com | Aerial Photography of Marinas, Lighthouses, Ports, Restaurants, and more - they list most marinas in the US.

In general...you will find the southern chesapeake...north carolina...south carolina and georgia the most economical areas to work on a boat. Deltaville VA would be my top recommendation as costs are reasonable and there is a top flight work force inseveral good boatyards and you can anchor out when not having work done. Morehead City NC is another good area for getting work done.
Thanks! I have looked at the Skipper Bob site, and find it very helpful - there are some publications we might be interested in buying.
Thanks, again!

moorage

[It would help if you said what kind of boat you would be in and what the draft and LOA of it are. ]

We don't yet know that. It will be 37 to 45 foot cruiser (sail), fibreglass.

sailingdog It would help if you said what kind of boat you would be in and what the draft and LOA of it are. Most longer-term mooring, haulout and storage costs area based on the size of the boat.

Moorage and anchorages on East Coast

We are planning on buying a boat and working on it before we sail off to the Caribbean, but are finding the advertised cost of moorage prohibitive. We would like information (URLs, names, locations) for moorage from Maine to Florida, as well as "on the hard" costs/locations.

Thanks in advance.
Terry
