Valiente If you have the shore power, use it, I say. You've already paid for it.

And if you have the sun/wind power, do the same. If not...leave the fridge door open, lest ye be visited by The Curse of the Black Fungi.

TrueBlue Not to be condescending with this question, but . . . When you and your family go on vacation for a few weeks, do you unplug your home's refrigerator? There really is no difference, between a boat's reefer compressor and a home unit - but voltage and size.

They're designed for this, so keep it on 24/7. We do, and so do the many seasonal and liveaboard friends we have.

Leaving fridge/freezer on for the season...?

Being new to having a fridge and freezer - I'm assuming it's OK to leave them on for the entire sailing season (about 5 months here on Lake Champlain)? This is not a power question, but just a "are they meant to do that" question. It's a brand new SeaFrost two plate system.
