Re: Universal to Kubota Parts list?

JJJ sometimes it takes the heating and bending a 12 point box wrench to get at the cap bolt ends. but it can be done.Get all the caps off and carefully lift the entire crank. The con rod bolts can damage the journals. Then tap each rod.Watch for ridge wear at bore top before you damage the ring lands Worth saving ?? your call but giving up ???

jjjjonny Ok. Sorry i do see the z500 on the dipstick. I thought i was going to see a cereal number. The kubota dealers wont help me without it and i cant see it anywhere. All The labels are worn off and i dont see any numbers embroidered on the actual block other than the 508 cc. Most threads ive read people say they see the cereal number on the side of the block but i dont see it.
I was able to get a rebuilt block to replace the frozen one that i pulled out of my boat and right now im piecing together the parts that are salvageable. The original block im still working on unsiezing. The conrods are in a position where i cant unbolt them to beat the pistons out without turning the crankcase which doesnt seem to be going anywhere. Not sure its worth saving.

Re: Universal to Kubota Parts list?

Your 5411 is a Kubota z500 block. It was used in their B5100D and B5100E tractors. Still haven't gotten around to rebuilding mine, but last February I received a quote from Sid at Kumar Bros (www.kumarbrosusa.com) for bearings, pistons, etc... basically a rebuild kit minus gaskets... for $259 with free shipping. At that time everything was in stock. Hope this is helpful. Keep us all posted as you go along with this! Mine is still out there on my project list.

Re: Universal to Kubota Parts list?

Hello guys, my motor is running again. I had to use another tank to start it since there was no access to the tank and I couldn't clean it, yet. I bled at two bleeding spots and sprayed a little ether into the intake and it fired right up. It then started easily several times so I think it'll be ok. The gauge reads 670 hrs, too good to be true but I hope they are real.
I am going to need some help though with my transmission. I've ran it dry. I've had this sailboat for more than a year but when I brought it home I motored it 60 miles flawlessly. I then took it for a sail a couple times and motored it a bit. Finally I forced it in reverse when trying to set a three way anchor setup and stopped the motor only to find the shifter frozen the next time I went to move it. I can only shift hammering the shifter at the transmission. It will move forward and reverse only when hammering fron the transmission, the remote shifter by the wheel isn't able to shift. I am planning to remove the motor to get to the transmission so I can take a lloik inside and see what is wrong. Is there any information on these transmission, will I be able to get parts for it?
I haven't been able to find any info on the tranny. Do you know anything about them?
Thanks again for the help!!!

Re: Universal to Kubota Parts list?

Thanks Ishmael and Denisse for the input, I will try to start it tonoght with fresh diesel. Just one last question, should I crank using the pressure release or not use it?
I'll keep you posted with my results.
Thanks again.

I have a Pearson 35 with a 5424 that doesn't want to start. I bled after the fuel filter and before the injector pump, getting the air and fuel out of them. Then I cranked and used the release to try to start without success. How could I test the pump or what could have gone bad? Does someone have an good diagram of the pump, someone told me it seemed like if a key could have shattered and to pull it out, ?.
Blowinstink, Ishmael, could you share with me the info on the 5424 you mentioned you had on 2007?
Rick, I'd not assume the pump is the problem so early on. Has the boat been sitting a long time? Most if not all diesel tanks have sludge in them. It only takes something as simple as rocking the boat or a new owner moving it to start causing problems with the fuel system. Start at the "bottom" of the tank. then the pick up tube that most likely has a screen on it covered with sludge, the lines (cheap to get new) fuel pump, filters. (make sure they are well sealed and all connections tight. Univrsal has a bleeder but it may not let out all the air the first try. I have an electic pump that's on with the key so I can pump it without running the engine (helps allot) I also have a squeeze bulb in the line (most say NO! because of code) but it works well.

You can google Universal 5424 manual and there are all sorts of pdf copies free online. They will include exploded views of the pump. Here is one (kinda cumbersome) site which is easy to view. Rec you get a hard copy though.

Universal Diesel 5424 Technical Manual
