Chuteman CD: Thanks for the advice & yes it helps. As a newbie to this process it's confusing at best & frustrating at worse. So many differing opinions in an industry with some "interesting" characters.
I'm trying to get the info like Soldboats.com without making a commitment to any one particular broker at this point in time.

Cruisingdad I cannot remember all the points about it, but BUC has not kept up with the changing times. If you find a good broker, they will pull all the data you need from Soldboats on any boat of interest. Make sure they print it all out for you. If they send you a link, you will likely need their password to open up individual sales as these are typically locked. That is very important because you don't just need to know what they sold for - you need to know what they had on them. ALso, it has been mentioned to me several times before that not all brokers put correct data back into Soldboats. Thus, use it as a guide, not the fact.

You will see what I mean.

I am "for" using a broker, and know boats better than most people. Many people on this site hate brokers - unfairly in my opinion. Still, the key (KEY) is the right broker who is honest. THese are usually independents that do not have a flotilla of boats they are trying to sale outside. The guy that steers you away from his own boats and is willing to really sit down with you and find you YOUR boat, is the one worth keeping. However, many that I have seen personally are dishonest and nothing but good salesmen. Only you will be able to tell the difference.

Tough to find, but given the cost, worth the effort.

I do not know if I have helped or not. Good luck in your search.

Chuteman CD: I was trying to gather my data before approaching either. Agree on Soldboats (you mean data from Yachtworld?) but need an insider for that one. Have a contact that hopefully will come thru for that in this "pre" stage but is out of the office.
Funny (or maybe not) an insurance co contact said they use BUC a lot.

Cruisingdad Most surveyors today put very little credibility in BUC. Soldboats carries more weight, in my opinion.

WHat does your surveyor & broker say?
