NEWPORT 28

The 28 is the looks like a smaller 30...I had a 1984 30 newport...original owner..just sold her...I sailed her to Bermuda from Long Island, NY...to Florida 2 times and once to the Abaco Islands, Bahamas...Have put thousands of miles on her...have raced her her & have 3 trophys for our efforts..Strong vessel built well 5'' 2"draft ..10''6" beam lots of room below including storage. Gelcoat looks like new..but Idid put the effort into her..It is a well thought out vessel...Enjoy

It looks like the Eisnors tend not to check their email. I was just sitting on their boat on Sun night (made for a rough start to Monday morning).

As I will be seeing them on the weekend I will get their phone number. Send me your email address and I will send it to you next week. I will let them know to expect your call.

I know two couples with Newport 28 Mk II. Both love their boats. They are well appointed below decks and have reasonably nice lines. The draft is 5'' 2" on the fin model and less on another version. Of the two boats I know the 28 is either tiller or wheel steering. We also have a 30 at our club. Nobody I know has said anything negative about these boats. While they are not racers they also do not appear to be pigs.

Regards,

Mike

Mike, its been over a week since I e-mailed my request to the people you suggested I write in re newport 28. Maybe they didn''t want to open email from a stranger. If so, I understand. I would still like to hear first hand what someone who owns a newport 28 mk11 likes and dislikes about their boat. Many thanks to any who are willing to reply.

Contact Dave or Phyllis at dlpti@accesswave.ca as they have a 1982 Newport 28.

I have known owners of several Newport 30s. The word is that they were not great sailing boats, but, properly powered, motored well.

O.K. I''ve decided against the Grampian for the time being. The owner has even dropped the price another 1000. Maybe he will even go lower. In the meantime I have looked at this Newport 28. I really Liked what I saw but I think it has original sales and standing rigging. I looked at the newport owners message board and they all think they are great boats as do the grampian owners think their boats are ,too. The Newport did look Like a classic sailing vessel. For some reason I was really drawn to it. Do any of you experienced sailors have any thoughts or comments you''d like to make? The Newport is a 1984 shoal draft. Please give me and this board your excellent input. Thank you.
