I believe what you are referring to are checkstays, which can be brought back aft to padeyes on the deck help brace the loads imparted to the middle of the mast when using the staysail only in extreme conditions. I don't think they are used to "tune bend" our stiff LeFiel masts, but are primarily used for structural integrity and guard against mast pump.

Also, you only need the windward one. You can slack off or remove the leeward one so that the main can be fully eased.
Also, in a lot of these boats, the inner forestay has a quick disconnect at the deck. If you have this, you can stow all three and only bother with them when you want to fly a staysail (or perhaps in heavy weather).

Are they shrouds or flying back stays?
If they are....go back to the START line and do not collect, read a lot about them, then come back with your questions.....

Adjustable Shrouds-Proper Use
I own a 1989 Pacific Seacraft 31 that is cutter rigged and has adjustable shrouds. I have no knowledge of how to properly used this rigging system. They run from the middle of mast back into the cockpit area. They consist of a rope line running through a double block attached to the shrouds and snape shackles for easy release - presumably to allow easier access to the cockpit when boarding.
Two questions: Can I move this rigging forward to the mast and sail without using them and not damage my rig?
And, what is the proper method to use such rigging. Is the principle the same as an adjustable backstay, i.e. loosen on a broad reach and tighten shrouds to improve pointing ability when going windward?
I searched the web, but could not find much on my initial search......
