Re: C&C 30 MK1 Shifter help.

That suggests that you do need a new shift cable. Mine was stiff even when you disconnected the shift cable.

Re: C&C 30 MK1 Shifter help.

I have a 2GM20-F As well. the thing is, if I take it lose from the moves easy. The trans shifts by hand very easy as well. Its just when the two are connected it becomes stiff and hard to shift?

Re: C&C 30 MK1 Shifter help.

Just replace the cable. The existing 33 year old one is probably corroded. A new Teleflex cable (or almost any other suitable replacement) will probably be a nice upgrade.

You should also check the transmission oil. I accidentally used the wrong oil (30W instead of 10W30) in my Yanmar 2GM20F transmission and it killed the shifter feel. A got back to the dock and put in the correct oil and the shifting got precise once again.

I think you have an Atomic-4 with an old Teleflex cable.

Why don't you try lubricating it before replacing it? Remove the cable, and hang it in your garage. Apply ATF fluid to the inner, moving part and let it run down into the casing for about 30 minutes. Then, try to operate the cable and work the ATF around.

C&C 30 MK1 Shifter help.

Its time to change the shift cable on my 1981 C&C30 MK1. The cable that is there now has always been tight and hard to shift. Is there a better style or different cable to make the shifting easier? I just got back from the BVI we Where we rented a 36-I and it shifted very nice. I have never owned a different sail boat and there-fore had nothing to judge by. But now after a week with great shifting I think its time to change mine out. My boat has a red cable. my shiftier is on the left of the console and the throttle is on the right side. The throttle seams fine. Any Suggestions?
Thanks for your help and advice.
