Lancer28 Go for seaclear II it's free and so are the charts... $30.18 including shipping for the GPS receiver and you're all set!!!!!

I'll NEVER buy charting software again!

labatt I use Chart Navigator Pro... it's much nicer than the free version. It will quilt your charts together for seamless viewing. It will use vector charts (as opposed to just raster). It adds all the live GPS functions - tracking, position, etc. It has a "cruise mode" which will give you all your instrumentation that comes to it via NMEA. The interface is excellent. The only thing it won't do for me, that I wish it did, was integrate radar overlay.

IIRC, Seaclear only uses the older BSB-format bitmap/raster charts, not the newer ENC charts.

Freesail99 You can download Seaclear for free. It uses the Noaa charts, which are also free to download.

Whampoa I use the "Coastal Explorer" package and have found it to be excellent and priced well below the $500 point in your post.....There is a free trial download available so you can get a good look at it to see if it meets your needs.... It was developed out on the west coast.

Coastal Navigation Software???

Will be buying navigation software for the west coast in the near future. Anyone have personal knowledge of Maptech Chart Navigator Pro?? Am now using the "limited" version that comes with the chart books. OK but limited. What is actually being used?? Not a huge expense but don't want to waste five hundred bucks. Thanks for your input.
