Sail covers for loonnnggg mizzen boom

Could you make an outhaul with a cleat attached to the boom where you can reach it? Then pull the sail inboard, attach the sail cover, then pull the outhaul to put it back at the boom end? Maybe.

Sail covers for loonnnggg mizzen boom

Folks:

We at last have sails for the L. Francis Herreshoff Nereia we''ve been building forever. Sails, though, mean we need to make sailcovers pretty quickly, and I''m puzzled about something. We''ve got a very long mizzen boom that hangs way out over the transom, so it''s not like we can get out to the aft end to snap or zip or whatever. Wondering if any of you have suggestions for what to do to (a) cover the sail way out at the end of the boom and (b) close it under the boom. We''re kind of scratching our heads and thinking about some kind of grommet or loop or something on the end that we can carry out to where it belongs with a boathook or something. Or maybe a zipper pull that we can attach a small line to . . . ????
Our boat is an oddity here in Florida, so it''s not like we can walk around our dock and get ideas. If you have any thoughts, please pass them on. Thanks in advance for your help.

Kitty
