midwestman Thanks for the responses to date. I am in the Midwest, but am able and willing to go anywhere in the continental US. Would prefer to go this September or October, so prevailing conditions at that time would be a consideration. My interest is in intensive week of small boat learning and practice with an experienced sailor - I don't care about certification, I'm not looking to buy a boat. have contacted a couple of sailing schools in Annapolis, San Francisco and San Diego so I know that a custom course is possible, but nothing beats a personal recommendation from someone's personal experience. Hence my question - and my apologies I did not provide more details the first time. Thanks.

It's about as general as the question....

tommyt OK, I am going to assume by your user name that you live somewhere in the Midwest. What I don't know is whether you have your own boat that you want to learn on or if you want to learn for charter or with the intent to buy a boat.

So, making the assumption that you don't have a boat that you need the instructor to come to, what you need is a charter with a teaching captain somewhere ...wherever? That should be easy to arrange for. If you want to stay in the midwest then google ASA schools that also have charter fleets. Or, if you don't care where that broadens your options.

I would recommend Bay Breeze Yacht Charters, which is an ASA school with some very good captains, in Traverse City, Mi. Go to www.bbyc.com to get an idea of what they offer. Call them and they should be able to put something together for you. They can put you on anything from 30' to 40' plus or a catamaran.

If my assumptions are incorrect....OH well!

sailingdog Midwest is pretty big... he's got a better chance if he's on the Great Lakes rather than a smaller lake...

LeftyI36 I'm going to guess he's somewhere in the Midwest, man.

CapnHand It might help if you indicated a geographic region.

Custom Personal Keel Boat Instruction

I have ASA Basic Keelboat 101 Certification. I would like additional intensive instruction. Specifically, five consecutive days of personal instruction on a 20-25' sloop rigged sailboat. Can anyone recommend a school where I can arrange for a custom course like this? Thanks.
