The genoa sheets should not be running through a cam cleat to get to the winch. Generally, the genoa sheets will run from the clew of the sail, back through the fairlead on the genoa car, to a turning block and then forward to the winch. From the winch they will either go to a cleat of some sort—usually clam or cam cleats, or if the winch is a self-tailer, they'll end in the tailing jaws.
Photos of the various pieces on your boat would help.... As would asking around on the O'Day group lists.

|danjarch||You might consider putting in another set of cleets that would be at a better fair lead. You might also upsize your genoa cars. You don't have any pictures of the rigging do you?|

Have a 1976 O'Day 25. I am not sure what is the best way to run the genoa sheets back to the cockpit and to get them around the winch. The last thing I tried was this: sheets run from the sail, through the genoa car on the track, then through the cam cleat which is aft of the car, then forward to the winch.
Another possibility is to run the sheet through the genoa car, forward to the winch, then aft to the cam cleat. Either way looks strange and puts a lot of tension on the genoa car. In fact, the starboard one broke.
There is a fair lead on the deck forward of the winch but it is not adjustable and not in the right place for trimming a genoa. Works fine for the jib, though.
