Until that start switch key lock is replaced. Disconnect your batteries and carry the battery cable home with you. A cheap form of security.

I have a bilge blower that is wired to the ignition switch on my CS30 - when the key is on the blower is on - might be a good idea to check and see if you have one as well. If so, then just reach inside and loosen one of th ignition wires.
Have you posted this on the CSOA site as well ???
SD: There is nothing wrong with the CANADIAN boat, its the friggin' AMERICAN engine that's deeefective

Didn't think about an electronic fuel pump - Ill check that. The points and ignition issue is obvious, but I appreciate the comments.

For a temporary fix, try using needle nose pliers to grasp what is left of the key in the switch. You should then be able to turn it off.
The same thing happened to me a few years back. While sailing toward the sea wall just outside of the harbor in Annapolis, the key broke off in the ignition. We dropped the jib and eased the main sheet to reduce speed and luckily was able to start the engine relatively quickly (although the mood was tense at the time) by using some needle nose pliers and grasping the end of the key that was left the cylinder. By digging out some of the plastic part of the slot where the key is inserted we were able to get a bite on the key. We used the “pliers” technique successfully for 2 more starts and stops until we replaced the switch.

HELLO GUYS... this thing is a diesel... there are no points or even an ignition system... it's a diesel...

My Universal 5411 has an electric fuel pump that comes on with the ignition key. Yours may be the same. Probably not good to leave that running continuously.

I guess no one saw that he says he has a diesel motor. No points in them to burn out.

If it is an older points type ignition, it will burn them out.

Just replace the switch. Cole Hersey makes a ggod one. A half hour job for about $15. I did this a few months ago.
