|micksbuddy||Before you buy, you might also look into Sirius weather service and see how it compares. I looked at a friends setup via a Raymarine chartplotter and it looked pretty good, lots of information. He said the cost was $30/mo.|

What is your existing chartplotter. It may have an option for adding XM WX radio.

My existing chartplotter is already mounted and wired for navigation through the auto helm.
My thinking on the 376c is that 1)it seems to be relatively inexpensive, 2)it is portable and easily transported.
I was thinking of some type of receiver that I could use with my laptop, but haven't found anything affordable yet.
Also, I think I have seen that the service can be suspended and used seasonally if wanted.

I wouldn't be surprised if it works farther out even if XM doesn't advertise it. Take a look at these coverage maps for Sirius and XM. They also mention some mods to increase reception:

I use XM weather displayed on a Garmin handheld GPS in my aircraft and have used it on the boat on occasion. It is awesome for that use, but the sattelite coverage doesn't extend far enough for offshore crusing, and even if it did, the source data becomes sketchy-er than with the US.
It would be great stuff for the coastal cruiser.
