Valiente Bruce, you might want to take apart the centerboard trunk to examine all the parts and consider replacing them. It's a prime location for corrosion and fatigue, and it's a relatively simple thing to fix if you find a problem, but very hard to fix if you sustain damage or a bad jam up. Centerboards are a great compromise, but there seems to be eight ways to do them wrong and only a couple of ways to do them right.

To answer the last two questions ...

I got the price down a bit - around 8%. Not much more room than that with the few other 45.5s out there with asking prices as much as 100K more.

The boat draws 4'11" with the board up and 11' with the board down. Apparently you don't need to have the board down often though - just to go to windward a bit better

john232 I had that boat on my short list. but we won't be ready to buy untill late winter. May you be blessed in all your exploits with that fine Bristol yacht. I know I am being VERY nosy, but did you bargain down alittle and get a decent deal on the boat???.

teshannon Congrats, very nice boat. I almost bought a Bristol 41 and although it didn't work out I liked the boat a lot. Good luck.
