|Valiente||A friend with a Viking 28 had one successfully rebuilt two years ago here in Toronto, so it can be done.|

So how's it going with the Vire? Do you have the 7 or the 12? I've got the 12 in my Ostkust and after one season I'm pretty happy with it. The one negative is it's a little loud. Mine had sat for a few years, it was totally plugged up, no cooling water flow at all. It is light enough, though, that two of us could lift it out of the boat and we got it all sorted pretty easily.
That website listed above was very helpful. They are very simple engines really.
The mechanic at the marina I launched in said "That thing shouldn't be in a boat it should be in a museum. "

here's a link I found in a 5 second google search..
There were several more hits. You should be able to find the info you need there.

|HoffaLives||Time to do some research and find out who actually makes that 2-stroke engine. First place is to go over the engine itself and look for castings that show name and part numbers. Good luck with your research. Time well spent.|

Westerbeke Vire ...
The c&c i have purchased last summer had one, the previous owner rebuild the engine, it failed with some bearing, fixed it, something else failed, to make long story short, he bought an outboard 9,9 Johnson electric start etc, with the bracket, and installed, got sick and tired of all the problems. Now i am ready to put it back in,as it is pretty hard to steer the boat, with the tiller and the motor at the same time when backing out ofthe slip. ....
Main questions, anybody knows any sites, orplaces that willsell the rebuild kits, mods for that engine???
