Atomic 4 exhaust

Bob, If you have an Atomic 4, you need to know about Moyer Marine. I can't post a link, but Google will find them for you. Don services the Atomic 4, sells parts, and has technical tips and a very active forum on all things Atomic 4. If you can't find an Atomic 4 answer there, I doubt there is an answer. Good luck, and have fun diagnosing and fixing your problems.

Atomic 4 exhaust

In June I purchased my first sailboat, Catalina 30 with an Atomic 4. I've noticed a couple of engine problems that I'd like to take care of while it's on the hard. The engine compartment has a lot of soot/carbon build-up and I smell exhaust after the engine has been on. I'm guessing that the exhaust pipe has a leak. It's wrapped with a type of heat tape, but you can see the carbon build-up near where there should be fittings or connections. I have looked for a diagram and parts list to see how everything is connected, and what the parts should look like, but have been unable to find it anywhere. There is also an odor of gasoline, but have been unable to find a leak anywhere. I'm thinking that it's coming from either the carb opening that is covered by the flame arrestor, or from wherever the exhaust is leaking.
Any experience with this? Any ideas? Any suggestions on diagrams, parts, parts lists?
Thanks,
Bob
