erps A new form of life? If you have rusting hardware in the bilge, it could be adding some redish color too.

Idiens ATF is usually red/pink and doesn't smell as bad as diesel.

denby I would go with Cam's anti-freeze because you would smell diesel.

Answer found - Pink sludge in bilge

Looking for some experience and words of wisdom here. After a sail Saturday on To the C's (83 Newport II with 5411 Universal) I was alerted to a thick pinkish liquid in the bilge. I can't figure out what it is - a little slimy feel, some water separation (any of it pumped out floats on the water), but no overwhelming odor.

I checked out the engine/transmission area and all was dry - no oil or red liquids apparent at all anywhere. Couldn't find any spilled containers. Engine and transmission (including reverse) worked fine at a reasonable operating temperature.

I'm stumped and wondered if this rings a bell for anyone?

Thanks, Drew
