I have changed the oil once before and I didnt think thee was any water at that time. also I cant go out and run the stnot out of it becase the cutlas berring is bad and I have to go 200 miles to nthe nearest hall out to change the berring. I have cleand the fuel tank and filters removed the algie and put in aditives to kill algie and new fuel. it is a littal slow starting but runs smooth.

This could be a failing head gaskett too. If you have the means, do a compression test before you do anything else. It may not be as bad as you think!

I would do a couple oil changes in quick succesion to see if your problem clears up. While blue smoke is usually bad rings or valve guides, if the engine is running well I would suggest that you run it a full speed (at the max rpms recommended in the manual) under load for perhaps an hour. Often after diesels sit they just need to be run hard to clean them out. I would also get fresh fuel and run diesel injector cleaner through the next tank of fuel.
Volvos tend to be pretty reliable and rebuildable but the parts are expensive. Unless you are doing extended cruising in a remote area, I would continue to use the Volvo at least until it starts giving you more trouble than simply smoking. The water in the crankcase may simply be condensation from 10 years of sitting.

Hay I have a md11c volvo engine and I just found water in the oil and it is smoking blue smoke. this engine only has 500 hrs on it but it has sat for 10 years. I am thinking about not even messing with it and re powereing with a yanmar or westerbeek. or ?? but I am on a budget and it will be a stretch any sugestions.??
