Chesapeake/Maine Marina''''s/Anchorages

Check out Deltaville, Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. It''s a quaint and quiet sailing town. Jackson''s Creek (Deltaville Marina) and Fishing Bay (Fishing Bay Harbor Marina) are two great anchorages/marinas. Visit for more info.

Call (207)244-0112 (I think). This is Dysart''s Great Harbor Marina in Southwest Harbor, Maine. They''re likely competitive coastwise and can give you an idea. Realistically, rather than getting marina-trapped, you''re probably looking at renting moorings hither, tither and yon. Call Bucks Harbor Marine in Brooksville, Maine and they''re probably competitive with mooring rents. Anchoring ain''t bad after the first couple of nights in a new spot. Belfast, Camden and Rockland will have dockspace, as well as SW Harbor and NE Harbor. However, again, you''re looking at moorings or anchoring in between AND, Maine''s been around awhile and her citizens have been throwing junk on the bottoms of harbors for over 300 years. Beware anchoring in harbors. Water cold. Damn cold. Just got a memory chill thinking about it. KW

Our boat is a Lord Nelson 41 but with the bow sprit we''re really close to 47. Sounds like this is a bit long. Do you know what the average monthly rates would be in your area? Thanks.

There''s a cruising guide that covers the coast of Maine adequately. Lots of places to hang out. Going north or south, you''re usually against the wind. At least that''s the story of almost every run I''ve made from Mass to Downeast. Big tides require cautious anchoring. Portland has several places to hook up for a month. Little River outside Portsmouth, NH has a large dock system. From there . . . it''s somewhat limited all the way to Portland to small (York, Biddeford)harbor setups with limited space. After Portland, things open up. Penobscot Bay is loaded. Make reservations ahead, if you can, because the NY Yacht Club shows up and commandeers marinas. Buck Harbor Marine in Brooksville has moorings - get the cruising guide.

I''m in a small marina off the West River, just south of Annapolis. I plan to be crusing most of this summer and would love to arrange a monthly sublet. Up to 40'' boat.

Email me if your interested

On the western shore of the middle section of the Chesapeake Bay, there''s Solomons Island on the Patuxent River. There are a lot of marinas there, but I like Spring Cove Marina-

good luck,

Looking for advice on nice, reasonable marina''s in the Chesapeake, New England and Maine area that have monthly rates. Will be cruising with twin 3 1/2 yo boys in this area from June-Sept. Also looking for neat anchorages.
