ESPERANCE LOST IN SINKING, CREW RESCUED
The 35 foot sloop ESPERANCE sank 100 nautical miles northwest of Bermuda on Sunday, May 4, 2003 at 10 AM. The crew deployed a liferaft and activated an EPIRB, both supplied by LiferaftRental.com LLC.
A United States Coast Guard C-130 aircraft located the liferaft at approximately 6 PM and established contact by VHF radio.
The freighter YUCEL, enroute from New Orleans to Iceland was approximately 50 nm away and diverted the the location of the liferaft. The three crewmembers were taken aboard at 10:30 PM.
