|camaraderie||On older Adler Barbour units there is a white plastic Terminal Block where all the external wiring enters the unit. These are screw down terminals and somtimes a wire comes loose. There is also at least one fuse assembly to check there as well to see if a fuse blew. If you see any eveidence of blackening/melting at the terminals...wait for a pro...but you may save a few bucks if you check these simple things first. Good luck!|

My 20 year old "Cold Machine" did not work when I bought the boat last year.
I took a 110v compressor off of a mini fridge and brazed it in place. It works great. Keeps the fridge cold when on shore power and draws 100 watts off my inverter.
It also is R134a, the Cold Machine was R12, so I can recharge it with off the shelf coolant.
Cheaper than an $800 replacement unit.

Adler Barbour maintenance
Does anyone know of a good service company in Newport Beach, CA for Adler Barbour refrigeration units. Preferably someone who does "in the water" house calls. My unit on a Caulkins 50 sailboat has stopped working and I can't figure out why. Has power, freon level is OK but compressor won't come on.
