sailboy21 In Hawaii I met a group of Japanese sailors who had sailed a Catalina from Japan to Hawaii, and then to the west coast. The boat had previously been at the bottom of Tokyo Bay with a hole approximately the size of the galley range. I don't remember exactly how that happened (they were sharing their Saki at the time) but in any event if a boat like that can sail uphill across the Pacific it should serve as a testament to fiberglass durability, and appearantly Catalina.

Here they are on their way to the PNW:

Anyone seen these guys?

But I think the advice is good and there is anothyer Cat 36 out there ready to sail.

Thanks
And I have a letter from Bill Lapworth saying I can go out of the house without my helmet.

You made a good choice, and welcome to sailnet.

SimonV 3600 square inches of hull damage. What did it collect, the pointy end of a stink boat.

artbyjody You made a good decision there Nunzio... it won't be long before you find a boat that you have no real questions about and it knocks your socks off...

denby nunzio,

Be patient and good luck finding the right boat.

nunzio Denby,

This will be my first after kids. Prior to kids had a Seidleman 25, and Ericson 29 (my favorite), an Island Trader 46 (liveaboard) and a Pacific Seacraft 25.

It's good to be back.

nunzio Regarding the humor. Not bad. The hole was actually made when Chaney was visiting and was showing off his new shotgun but that is another story.

Wondering if black hull sailboats are faster than white hulls?

Thats your best move. Keep looking for a good boat, one will come along. And when it does get a good surveyor to check it out.

Is this going to be your first boat?
