Bill,

If you will sign up for the SE list on Sailnet and then submit your question you will probably get more info than you can imagine...there are a lot of active sailors on that list and they love to be helpful! many are on the NC coast.

I''m planning to sail down from the Chesapeake Bay this fall, enter NC by way of the Oregon Inlet. Can anyone provide local knowledge for this inlet? All the books say not to do this without local knowledge but I''ve not always found this to be true of other inlets.

Thanks,

Bill

Kokopuff,

Your post made me remember a line from an Alan Jackson song that goes something like:
"I like my sushi southern fried."

That''s it for a Friday night. Sleep tight, y''all.

JWBernal,

Afterthinking about your post some more, I realized that maybe i wasn''t showing you the fine Southern hospitality that I was taught. I should''ve invited you to dinner and maybe some nice Southern event or taken you shopping, but I grew up in a small rural town in NC and I am worried that you probably would not enjoy the same tastes in those things that I would...do you like sushi, fine wine, wonderful outdoor concerts by the Symphony, and shopping in very secluded venues for classics made by talented artists? Maybe you can think about it while you spend the afternoon at Walmart....

I guess I''ll have to rethink that one.

"JW" Bernal,

I think it''s great how you''ve learned to "like the backwoods and the rednecks" down there.I have to admit, some of their idiosyncrasies have always struck me as funny."JW", have you ever noticed how the really hard core rednecks like to be called by their first two intials.Isn''t that a hoot?ha!ha!ha!

Are you equating American civilization with Western civilization?

I must be living in a cave. I never knew WalMart was the pinnacle of Western civilization.

There is good and bad EVERYWHERE...You did two things wrong in my eyes...you only gave what you saw as bad...never giving the good along with it. And you were not objective...you were comparing. Your post made me think that you are a very negative person and negative people make me want to run in the opposite direction. I seldom hold their views as anything valid.

my two cents worth...
