Re: Raymarine Autopilot Remotes
Guys you may have other option to S100, it doesn't turn off because inactivity and all the problems you mentioned, it is not as fancy as S100 but way less expensive. Search on e bay for "Smart Marine remote".

|skyellab||For what it is worth I have a smart controller and love it especially when I have lots of people blocking the way and I want to raise the sails or put them down without knocking them down. The auto pilot remote and dodge features are great as well as all the information it feeds me on everything right at my neck. Mine is great and always on even when charging. Only thing that drives me crazy is when it screams when I turn the nav power off. I just have to push the standby button.|

|negrini||Agree, no matter how pissed I'm with Ray, still depend on it to control my boat, and keep my little animals from falling overboard ... or killing themselves.|

|negrini||Brak ??!!!! This is ridiculous !! What about an arm operated by a solenoid with a 3min timer pushing a button automatically for you ? C'mon, by these days that should be Ray's second nature to be more competent|

Thanks to all for the replies and information. My autopilot is presently under my dodger and too far away from the wheel for quick disengaging.
My other option was a pod by the compass and moving the control unit there (possibly a cheaper option), but unsure how waterproof the ST60 units are - may need a wheel / binnacle cover while unattended which cancels out the cheaper option and has less flexibility for use ......I guess I found the answer .....
Thanks again !

I use the Smartcontoller; different animal.
Sorry for the confusion.

It is probably because TJK and I use our remotes as repeaters, and may be pressing buttons to go between different data displays.

Remote Manual (Scroll to Pg. 7)
Yours stays on because evidently the "Smart Controller" does NOT have this STUPID power saving mode/feature. I don't need a repeater as the only Raymarine stuff I have is the Auto Pilot so the S100 is all I need or want..
