sailingdog If Canada has any restictions on time limits or usage, you might be SOL. Should check with whatever Canadian agency is responsible.

Thanks SD,

The boat wont actually be staying in Canada but if I register it here I have to have proof from the CBSA (Our border agency) that all duties and taxes have been paid as an imported boat. One of the boats we are looking at is in Europe so in looking at all options I thought maybe I could purchase and register there and dockwise it here. I just dont know what they would require to register (and probably insure)

billyruffn SAB,

As I'm sure you are aware the legal and tax advice you get on SailNet is worth exactly 28.9793% of what you pay for it.

chucklesR Tough one apparently, I'll bump it up so it gets noticed.

a look on google says you have to pay import tax etc, there are time limits on keeping a boat in a country without registering it..I'd ask a broker then double check what he/she said at the canadian equivalent to our motor vehicle administrations.

Boat Registration

This may have been discussed..I searched but couldnt find an appropriate thread.

If I buy a boat in the UK can I pay local tax and register it there? (I am a dual CDN/UK citizen) It could then remain registered as a UK vessel while in Canada not having to import and pay duties..that would more than cover the cost of shipping via Dockwise.

What is required to register a boat in a different country and the pros and cons?

Thanks..if there are any links discussing if you could post that would be mucho appreciated
