blt2ski It also seems to me, that the Gougens(sp?) were building some high tech wood boats in the 70's and into the 80's. Granted not as high tech as today, but for that time period/era.... There is a "Port Angeles something or other" IRC 15-17' home build able boat designed in Port Angeles, Wa at that wooden boat center there that will make many boats of its size wonder what just passed it.

I personally do not see the issue of a wood high tech boat!

It's a wood composite, designed by Tom Wylie and built by Schooner Creek Boat Works in Portland, Oregon. Very high tech-- stronger and lighter than fiberglass per foot. They also built Ocean Planet, an Open 60 designed by Wylie and raced in the Vendee Globe.

For more info, see

Schooner Creek Boat Works - New Construction

Schooner Creek is my chosen yard in Portland, Oregon. I like the owner and he does good work for designers like Wylie and Robert Perry. I've seen several of their boats, and they have clean lines and interiors. If I could afford a custom build, I'd give him a call.

Vitesse473 Have a great and safe time. This year is for the Ha Ha. We'll be doing the PacCup maybe in 2010. That is unless the Ha Ha just turns out to be too much fun to pass up.

You won't see much of Kahn's Open 50, but if you do, take pictures and post 'em here.

Anyone Going on the Pacific Cup?

Iíll be sailing on board Music, a Nordic 44 in the B (crewed) Division starting on Tuesday, July 15th at 13.45. Fortunately, Paul Cayard and Philippe Kahn will not be in our division. How about the rest of you guys? This year all the boats will be carrying transponders that will update the website every four hours (www.pacificcup.org).
