The original manuals are so old and poorly typeset has anyone thought of starting a project to make a modern manual? Things like Color Wiring diagrams and more photos could be very helpful. Even if one were made to cover all boats and the differences just pointed out.

I would be happy to type up any of the texts that I could as a starting point, but would need an editor that new what they were doing and pictures would be a help.

At the end we could publish it as a PDF for all future Newport owners to have something to have as a reference.
I like that idea: ONe thing that could be done is to use a scanner to 'textualize' the old manuals: that is convert them to regular text.

I use WordPerfect which has a handy convert-tp-pdf function that works fairly well.

Probably the most difficult thing would be recreating the drawings like the mast layout, deck and cabin drawings etc.

kpdii Thanks, I look forward to learning more. I saw that the N-27 manual was there (why build boats at the same time so close in size?). It may give me a good start. The previous owner bought it from his brother and really didn't do much with her.

I am basically going to have to figure everything out from scratch. Read my post in general topics, but it looks like the first time I take her out it will be solo for about a 5 hour cruise. I may just leave it to the Atomic for the whole way. How long will she run topped off?

KeelHaulin Look @ the N-41 manual at the same website; or the N-30 if there is one; many of the descriptions are similar if not identical for the N-28. Since the Sailnet e-mail list has been shut down everyone who talks about Newport/Neptune/Gulf is in disarray right now so be patient while we work out where/how we will re-form our e-mail group. I'll send you a message and/or post here when we have decided the best way to proceed...

Just bought a 77 Newport 28, looking for Manual

I agreed to purchase a Newport 28 tomorrow and we are very excited!

I would love to see a manual. Does anyone have a pdf of one. I tried to print the pages on Newport, Neptune, Gulf sailboats built by Capital Yachts but for some reason, my printer couldn't print readible versions.

Here are phots I am going to be cleaning and doing general maintenance all week.

MANY MANY questions to follow, many of them stupid

Thanks
Patton
